Animals In War Memorial Cleaning and Protection

The Animals in War Memorial was unveiled in 2004 to remember those animals that served in wars in the 20th century. The amazing piece of architecture was a bright white dazzling piece of art when it when unveiled.

Unfortunately the Portland Limestone soon became dirty and dull due to it being between two busy roads on Park Lane. To make matters worse it had turned a deep green because of limestone’s natural ability to hold moisture and draw water and nutrients up from the ground. This meant the monument was an ideal habitat for spores to survive and grow.

Westminster City Council took responsibility for cleaning the memorial and Community Clean were contracted to restore the memorial and protect it using Magic Cote Ltd. products.

Community Clean used our MonumentClean product, designed to work effectively on vertical surfaces, to clean the Animals in War Memorial. MonumentClean goes beyond simple pressure washing, shot blasting or ice blasting because it can reach deeper into pores. Normal cleaning would result in the spores returning soon after cleaning.

Once Community Clean had finished bringing the surface back to its original brilliant bright white they began applying Magic Cote MonumentProtect. This would prevent moss, algae and carbon particulates taking hold in the limestone making them easier to remove at lower pressure and by rainfall. Protecting the surface kept it cleaner for longer, reducing the costs of cleaning.
